Our Story

The Sasani Studios story is woven into the fabric of South African lives.

If you’re a soapie fan, you’re sure to have followed the well-loved Egoli: Place of Gold, which was shot at Sasani Studios and first aired on 6 April 1991.  Egoli ran for 18 years, from Sasani Studios.  Other soapies shot at Sasani Studios include Rhythm City, Isidingo – The Need, Scandal! Skeem Saam, Diepe Waters, Smoke & Mirrors (all with custom-built studios),

Sasani Studios has also been home to numerous series’ of Big Brother broadcast to multiple channels into Africa.  Over the years, various seasons of Big Brother Africa, Big Brother Angola and Big Brother Mzansi were also shot at Sasani Studios.

 Other firsts:

  • The first Carte Blanche episode was shot and broadcast from Sasani Studios
  • The first K-TV episode was shot and broadcast from Sasani Studios
  • The first Red Nose Day was broadcast live  from Sasani Studios with live feeds received from multiple regions around South Africa.
  • The first Revue Plus was shot and broadcast from  Sasani Studios
  • The first Live broadcast of the popular music program named Hot Hits.The first live commercial “Hyperama Heydeys” was broadcast from Sasani Studios
  • The first series of “The Voice” South Africa, Nigeria, Angola and Francophone
  • The first international live broadcast of a popular BBC political talk show named “Question Time” from Stage-1 at Sasani to BBC UK.
